A new kitchen will be one of the most expensive projects you will undertake for your home. With most kitchens being well visited living areas it is important that it goes right. We have experience in planning and fitting kitchens from various suppliers.

We can help with recommendations and planning for your kitchen and can take care of your project with all factors from removal of the old kitchen through to lighting and flooring.

Due to the amount of gadgets and appliances we have in our kitchens, we have to get our electrics right. We can install extra sockets if you feel you don't have enough or move them if you think an appliance isn't in the right place.

Our qualified electrician can advise on and install:

• Extractor hoods including vented and recirculating hoods. As vented hoods vent externally, we can install the ducting via a hole through a suitable external wall.
• Plinth heaters these are perfect to add extra heating to your kitchen. Modern plinth heaters can come with remote controls.
• Sockets Whether you need extra sockets adding or moving, or would like to modernise with chrome sockets, our electrician is on hand to help.
• Lighting From ceiling spotlights, to undercounter lights, whether you need task lighting or want to create ambiance, we can help you achieve your lighting needs.

Whether you need a dripping tap replaced or a water supply installed for a new dishwasher, we have all of your plumbing covered. Our plumber Andy has years of experience under his belt, with some of his biggest jobs including complete new hot and cold water supplies and central heating pipe systems in a full house renovation. He has responded to, diagnosed and repaired countless plumbing and drainage emergencies in both domestic and commercial properties.

Rhodes and Leak can assist with all plumbing, water pipe and waste within your kitchen.  Installation of kitchen sinks and taps, as well as water and waste supplies for washing machines, dishwashers and plumbed fridge-freezers can be handled by us.

A common upgrade to kitchens is the installation of modern aesthetic radiators that come a range of colours, which can transform the look of your space.

Kitchen floors see a lot of traffic, life and dirt. From food and water, to muddy dog paws, its important to choose the right floor covering for your lifestyle. The most common wall and floor covering in a kitchen is tiling as tiles are resistant to food stains, scratches from furniture and pets, and water, which makes tiles ideal for an area where mess is bound to occur. Click vinyl flooring, similar to laminate, offers a cheaper but an equally effective alternative. These come is wood floor, tile and natural stone effects, so are perfect for achieving that luxury look without the added cost.

An alternative to tiles for kitchen walls are acrylic panels, and these come in a rainbow of colours and pattens.  A note worth mentioning though is acrylic panels can not be used as a splashback behind gas hobs, with some people choosing glass or stainless steel for this area.

Kitchen ceilings will be exposed to humidity from cooking and so its best to choose the right finish. Kitchen paints are formulated to withstand more humidity than normal everyday paints. A popular covering that we install for many of our customers is PVC cladding. This comes is various colours and designs, with the traditional 'tongue and groove' to panels that slot together for an almost seamless look. The result is a low maintenance, humidity resistant surface that looks the part.

As kitchen projects are something we do in our homes on average every 10-15 years, it is safe to assume that when we remove an old kitchen, the walls and floors may not be sound and suitable.

• Walls. The plaster can be blown, more common in older properties,  or be unavoidably damaged during removal of tiles and fittings. We would always advise if your walls or floor are not suitable, and recommend having a contingency to cover any unforeseen remedial work. As part of your kitchen project we can reboard and plaster your walls in readiness for the installation of your kitchen units.
• Floors We can prepare your floor by boarding or using a self levelling compound depending on your needs and floor finish.
• Ceilings Normally bathrooms are situated above kitchens and as a result any leaks in the bathroom can damage and weaken the kitchen ceiling below it. It is a common remedial task that we often carry out, and can repair or replace the ceiling if required.

As we make improvements to our homes sometimes the kitchen we want just doesn't fit in to the space we have. We might have that extra window that if it could be bricked up it would give additional wall space for units, or visible pipes that would look like an eyesore against a brand new kitchen if they couldn't be hidden.  We have helped numerous customers get the right fit for their kitchen projects, from removing  and bricking up doorways, to bespoke custom made doors for built in larders to moving stop taps to a different cupboard for accessibility.
