Tiles are the most common wall and floor covering for bathrooms as they are scratchproof and waterproof. Another option for bathrooms are panels, usually made out of acrylic or water resistant MDF. These panels are perfect for adding colour or patterns not usually found in tiling, and are low maintenance.

As bathroom floors tend to get wet, its best to choose the right type of flooring. Tiles are a common choice, as well as vinyl click, which is similar to laminate but water resistant.

Bathroom ceilings will have to deal with high humidity and surface condensation. having the correct finish on your ceiling is important. Bathroom paints are formulated to be used in high humidity rooms. Another option is PVC cladding. This material comes in different colours and finishes to match perfectly with your bathroom, and is low maintenance and water resistant.

Whatever wall, floor and ceiling coverings you choose, we will install it to a high and professional standard.

Bathroom Electrics

Bathroom Electrics

It would be OK to think that electrics don't belong in a bathroom, however, there are many things that rely on electric within a bathroom.

  • Extractor fans  These help remove excess humidity in the room. Whether you need to replace an existing fan or need one installing, our electrician can recommend and install the right fan for your needs.
  • Lighting Lights in wet humid areas should be IP rated depending on what zone they fall in. We can advise you on what IP rating you need and install them.
  • Shaver sockets These are ideal for charging shavers or electric toothbrushes.
  • Mirrors and cabinets Many come with task or ambient lighting that is powered by the mains.
  • Dual fuel radiators These are radiators heated by both central heating and electric, and are ideal for those homes who wish to just have heat to their bathroom radiator without having the central heating turned on during the summer, for example
  • Electric showers These showers are powered by electric, giving a constant temperature and water pressure.

Our qualified electrician can also remove any existing electrics, for example, if you were to change from an electric shower to a thermostatic then the power supply to the old shower would have to be removed and made safe. Rest assured that any bathroom electrics will be handled by our experienced and qualified electrician.

As the bathroom is the room that is most associated with water, it comes to no surprise that this is room that see the most water damage. Over time even small leaks can damage walls and floors beyond repair. Leaks can start because of aged and degraded fittings, or from poor installation. It is advisable to have a contingency for any damage repair work that is needed before you start your bathroom project.

If there is damage we can assess what can be done to rectify.

Quite often there is damage to plaster and we can remove this and reboard, using moisture resistant board in wet areas.

If you have noticed water damage in the room below your bathroom, then there is a high chance your bathroom floor will be water damaged also. Underneath baths and showers are also areas that see the most water damage. Whilst we assess the subfloor, we will also check the joists, where necessary, for water damage, assuring the safety of you and your home.

Bathrooms are wet areas, and water leaks are very common. Leaks can come from:

  • Bath and shower seals that have failed or poorly applied. If you noticed black mould forming then there is a chance it is starting to fail.  Missing or lifting seals will be allowing water to escape. We can remove the old seals, clean the area to remove grease and dirt, and apply a new seal.
  • Sink and bath taps. This one of the most common leaks and can be caused by a damaged washer, gasket, o-ring or stem. These are usually worn down over time by the continued use of turning the water on and off.
  • Toilets. As this is a heavily used item, again, over time components can wear down.  Cracked bowls can also allow water to escape.
  • Waste pipes. Poor installation can cause leaks. If waste pipes do not allow water to run away efficiently then that water can stand in the pipes, over time this water can find its way out.

It is good practice to periodically check for leaks and have them fixed no matter how small. What starts as a small drip can cause massive damage to floors, joists and rooms below. Rhodes and Leak can help with any leak you have in your home.
